Yes. There is a reading skills test that tutors will have to take and pass in order to have the online application submitted to Reading Rescuers, Inc. Tutors will be directed to take the online reading skills test after they have completed the online application. There is a study guide available on the screen before the test that Reading Rescuers, Inc. encourages all tutors to study before taking the test. The test can be taken at a later time as well to allow for ample study time.

Yes. Reading Rescuers Inc. requires each tutor to pass a National Background Check. The background check costs $19.99 and you will be asked to pay for it online after you take and pass your reading test. Any tutor who becomes a Reading Rescuers, Inc. tutor will have the $19.99 background fee refunded to them after 60 days of tutoring. If a tutor fails the background check, the fee will not be reimbursed.
The application takes approx. 15-20 minutes and it takes 15-20 minutes to take the reading skills test. Once you submit your background check application and payment, you will receive a response between 7-10 days. The entire process typically takes up to 2 weeks.
Yes. Online tutor applicants who pass the reading skills test and the background check will be scheduled an online interview with an Educational Support Team (EST) team member. During this interview, the tutor will be expected to be able to navigate the tutoring platform successfully as well as to teach 2 short reading lessons to the EST member from a lesson plan given to the tutor prior. The interview will last approx. 45-60 min.
The Educational Support Team (EST) is an experienced group of tutors who oversee all other tutors. EST tutors have tutored with Reading Rescuers Inc. a specified amount of tutoring hours and have been trained and experienced in writing reading lesson plans and grading reading assessments by Reading Rescuers Inc.
Yes, a member of the Educational Support Team (EST) will be assigned to each tutor and will provide support to the tutor as well as create all goals, write all lesson plans, and give all assessments to all students in the tutorâ??s caseload.
Yes. Once a tutor accrues the required tutoring hours with Reading Rescuers Inc, the tutor is eligible to apply to be a member of the Reading Rescuers Inc. EST team. Some select tutors will be given the opportunity earlier by Reading Rescuers Inc. if they have the required experience and credentials.
The minimum hours for a Reading Rescuers Inc. online tutor are 4 hours a week after trial period. All tutors will start out tutoring 2 hours a week. Tutoring hours will increase with experience level with Reading Rescuers, Inc. There is no maximum of hours and is determined by tutor.

The amount of students that you tutor will depend on your experience level with Reading Rescuers, Inc. Beginning tutors will start with 1 student in a 1 hr session, twice a week and will increase caseload from there.
The tutor and the student/parent will log into their perspective Reading Rescuers Inc. dashboards and enter the online tutoring platform. The tutor will follow the lesson plan prepared by the EST team member. The online platform uses whiteboard, video and chat capabilities.
All Reading Rescuers Inc. tutors are independent contractors and are paid on a 1099 basis.
Tutor pay is competitive and the pay schedule is outlined in the Reading Rescuers Inc. tutoring contract which is signed during the online application process. Tutor pay will increase with the number of hours tutored with Reading Rescuers Inc.
Tutors submit an invoice for each tutoring session once completed via the tutoring dashboard. Invoices are paid on a Net 30 basis. This means that the tutor will receive the payment for the invoice 30 days after it has been submitted via direct deposit.
